CraftyHope at SAA Fairhope

Oh yes, it's Ladies Night!
That's right...it's back. From 6-8 pm tonight, you can browse Southern Antiques and Accents with live music, drinks, and a 10% storewide discount.

They do encourage everyone to practice social distancing and not come out if you're sick. I thought I'd share a little of what's available in my booth in case you're interested.
I recently stocked it for summer with loads of bright colors and fun accessories like the above pairs of earrings.

There's an array of necklaces that include artisan elements.

Beachy pieces are in stock.

I made sure to put out my brightest tin necklaces.

I think these earrings are PERFECT for the Fourth of July!

Of course, there are more subtle pieces like this crystal necklace.

 Everything has a one-of-a-kind flair!

But, you might see a few things that would work together!

These firefly earrings and sailboat earrings are also great for the season.

I'm sure there's something on the shelves that speaks your language!

There's loads to explore in my one little booth, including a bottom shelf of sale and bargain bin items.

And, then there's the rest of the store!

Whether you can make it to Fairhope tonight for Ladies Night or have to wait, you should definitely check out Southern Antiques and Accents at 254 South Greeno Road (behind the Pizza Hut) and be sure to follow the Southern Antiques and Accents Facebook Page and Instagram account. There's always something beautiful to see.

Peek at my Week (June 7-13)

I hope you're looking to find some beauty in each day. It almost feels like it's getting harder to find the good. But, I'm sure that's just a mood for me right now, and tomorrow will look a little brighter. Let's take a peek at my week.
As Tropical Storm Cristobal worked its way through our area, we watched the rain fall for hours! It was a wet weekend.

Some of the weather carried into the beginning of the week, but it finally cleared up. I worked on getting some earrings made for the Etsy shop since I had noticed a real lack of them. When the sun was finally out some on Tuesday, I snapped pictures in the craft room (it was still too windy with chances of rain to risk heading outside with all my gear.)

With unpredictable weather, I was able to stay inside and create for a few days. By Wednesday, I was playing around with the eco-dyed papers I had made along with some interesting image transfer skins.
However, that was as far as I got with those because I just couldn't make a decision.

Besides, it was pretty outside! I took a little walk around the property and found an amazing array of mushrooms. I couldn't help but take a dozen or more pictures. Here's just a few.
I'm sure dampness from all the rain had something to do with the abundance.

On Thursday, I felt plenty productive as I knocked loads of to-dos off my list. I even had a few beads on my desk!
All that screeched to a halt when the dog lost her mind while the exterminator was outside. She knocked me onto my knee and I spent a few hours icing it. (It seems to be fine, just a little sore.)

I was able to get most of my housecleaning done on Friday even with the sore knee. So, I had to forgive her. I mean, how could you not?

My best friend and my Goddaughter came over on Saturday afternoon for a swim. Once they left, we delved into watching Artemis Fowl on Disney +.
It was a fine movie...but as a fan of the books, it just didn't hit all the right notes for me.

I had some ups and downs with my #the100DayProject as well over the week as I missed a couple days and wasn't exactly thrilled with all my results. I'll let you be the judge.
I like Day 62's fine. I had to use some of my handmade stamps, and that's never a problem.

On Day 63, I was to use some of the "nice" paints I have stashed away and hidden. The components of this page are nice...it just could be better.

The above spread was created for Days 64 and 65. I need to use an old recipe card (I have a box of them!) and some acrylic inks. I struggled my way through this, trying new techniques. And, I finally came up with something I like.

The task for Day 66 was to trace stencils. I was soooooo unmotivated by this one at first. But, when it hit me that I could use watercolor pencils and crayons, I found my groove. As the knee injury came while I was working on this page, I kept it fairly simple.

Letter stickers and lace needed to go into this spread for Days 67 & 68. They made it onto the page, but it's those areas that bother me the most. I'm still trying to decide if I can fix it.

I did find plenty of inspiration and beauty to share with y'all:

I've seen so much hate online lately, that I feel like I'm getting sucked up into it. All I want to do is spread feelings of love, acceptance, and inspiration. I just want to see people respect one another and am doing my best to do the same. I hope you're surrounded by love and beauty this week!

Available on Etsy (and Giveaway Winner)

Sometimes, I believe I don't share near enough about the jewelry that's available in the CraftyHope Etsy Shop. I know you probably don't pop in there very often, so I like to show off a few of the sparklies available there.

You'll find all that and more available in the CraftyHope Etsy Shop. Each item has a full description and loads more pictures, but if you have any questions, please let me know. Oh, and you should be taken to each of these items when you click on them. I also have jewelry for sale locally at Southern Antiques and Accents and will share some of the pieces available there next week - stay tuned!

Now, if you recall, a few weeks ago I became frustrated with working with a pendant I had made for a challenge and decided to just give it away. I'm excited to announce that Ann Schroeder is the winner of this pendant!
I've sent her a message on Facebook but my neurotic self isn't sure if that was the right Ann or not. So...if you're the winner and I didn't contact you, please get in touch with me! Congratulations!!

So, which of the above pieces strikes your fancy?

June Challenges and Inspirations

If you're looking for a little extra inspiration in the form of an art challenge, you've come to the right place. Below you'll find my roundup of those for the month of June.

  • Already underway is the Index-Card-a-Day (ICAD) challenge from Daisy Yellow. It's a mixed media art challenge that's carried out on...index cards! (or some similar substrate) Prompts are provided for each day if you want to use them, but there's no requirement that you do.  There's still plenty of time to catch up or start now. You can find all the info in the link above.
  • You also still have time for Art Journey #4 at Art Bead Scene. The theme for this one is Alphonse Mucha's Precious Stones and the deadline is June 19th. Remember that your contribution must contain an art bead.
  • At SJ Designs Jewelry, you'll find the inspiration photo for June's Honey Do List. The reveal date for your jewelry design(s) is June 22.
  • Summer Solstice is June's theme at Art Elements. The theme is open to interpretation in any medium and can be submitted at any time during the month on the Community Facebook page. Read all the information on their page.
Right now, that's all I've been able to find for the month. It's plenty to keep me busy, but if you know of any others, please don't hesitate to let me know. I could use some distraction.

Peek at my Week (May 31-June 6)

How are you doing? Seriously. How are you? As if this year couldn't be full of any more drama, we've finally reached a boiling point on race relations in the US and elsewhere. I know Black Americans have been fighting for their rights for decades, and I stand with them. I hope you do too. Now, we've probably all seen the news, but it's time to share what some of this past week looked like for me.

On Sunday, I had an alarm set so I wouldn't miss a Lord of the Rings reunion on YouTube. Everyone in the house watched. It had me laughing, crying, and yearning to rewatch the trilogy (which I started yesterday). There are a few other cast reunions on Josh Gad's channel that I'm hoping to catch up on as well.

After that, we had a dip in the pool. It was the weekend after all!

Monday meant groceries and other errands before I headed to Mobile to check on my mom, step-dad, and niece and have dinner with them. Tuesday was Black Out Tuesday, so I focused on sharing Black Lives Matter material, voices, and inspiration as well as knocking out some of my own work (privately)

On Wednesday, I headed back to Mobile to take my niece to an appointment. Back at home, I found that my order from Jerry's Artarama had come in!
But, it was late and I needed to tackle other things before bed so I waited until Thursday to try out my new supplies. That's real restraint!

As I checked the mail on Thursday, I had to stop to admire the gardenias. They're just about done blooming, and I'm going to miss them so much.

I kept myself busy on Friday.
While refilling the birdfeeder, I spied this little mushroom.
Look at the little fairy door at its base!! Ahhhh! It's so awesome.

I had to upload a few videos, so I made a trip into town to use the public wifi. I saw that the Library had its carts of free books sitting outside, so I picked up...a few.
I can't resist free books!

Back at the house, I decided to go ahead and try eco-dying papers on my own.

I've only ever done it with others on a retreat before. The papers turned out beautifully!

I was so happy with the results that I was back out in the rain in the yard on Saturday (tropical storm Cristobal) picking plants for more eco-dying materials.
The above arrangement of weedy flowers made me smile.

And, into the pot they went!
Now, I just need to decide how to use all these luscious, dyed papers. I'm sure I'll come up with something!

Speaking of papers, I've done an okay job keeping up with my #The100DayProject.
On Day 55, I was to use some of my distress inks. That's never a problem for me. In fact, I used them quite a bit this week. But, to mix it up, I first carved a couple of stamps to use with the inks. I'm totally digging them.

Here's where I began to falter. I was so busy on Monday that I had a tough time getting to day 56's task of using stencils on my small gelli plates. I started this spread on Tuesday but just wasn't feeling it and put it aside to finish on Wednesday.

Using something from one of these Dover sticker books was the focus for Day 57. However, I think that's part of what held me up on Tuesday. None of them seemed to quite fit in (I mean...they're holiday stickers...) Instead, I decided that they no longer need to be in my stash and were transferred to my donation pile.

I needed to use my sewing machine with some of my miscellaneous fabrics. While I think I had grander plans when I set my tasks for the project, this worked for Day 58. It made it into the spread I had been struggling with and helped finish it.

Tissue tape was my material for Day 59. It was easily worked into the background of this art journal page.

Using my Colorix Crayons was Day 60's assignment. I really let myself play and tried not to go overboard with this page.

Using some of my scraps of paper on Day 61 almost felt like cheating. I use scraps in most of my art journal pages. While I struggled a bit with this page, it came together in the end with the addition of the blue.

Since the week was fraught with turmoil, I didn't feel very inspired or find much inspiration. However, there were a few things...

  • I encourage everyone to watch this video to understand some of the Black Lives Matter movement and some of the inequalities that African Americans face.
  • On a lighter note, Jewelry Making Journal has some examples for making Lariat Necklaces.
  • And, this very short video on Lifehacker might inspire you to Finally Start that Creative Project.
Here's to a brighter future and better days ahead. I hope you have an inspiring week!

Image Transfer Technique and Art Journaling Videos in May

Today over on YouTube I've shared a SUPER QUICK image transfer technique using packing tape. If you've done any kind of papercraft, you've likely seen this technique before. But, since it is so easy, I thought I'd go ahead and share. Here's how my transfer came out.
Isn't that cool?

This Packing Tape Photo Transfer uses only a few materials: a photocopy of an image, packing tape, a bone folder, and warm water.
It's easy peasy!

Since we're talking paper techniques and YouTube today, I thought it would be the right time to do my round-up of Art Journaling videos over the last month in case you missed any. Clicking on the pictures and/or captions should take you to the videos. Make sure to like and subscribe while you're there!

Mixed Media Tissue Paper Fairy

Using Paper Flowers in an Art Journal

All of these were created as part of my #The100DayProject as I'm exploring my papercraft materials and trying to find ways to use them. If you have any questions about art journaling or any of the techniques or materials I use in the videos, please don't hesitate to ask!

NEW website (and blog to go with it)
